About CSM shadowbans

This page aims to collect brief summaries on different occasions where corporate social media platforms blocked accounts or content, with a focus on but not limited to leftist and environmentalist activism.

Twitter, Facebook and other social media platforms block accounts or silences hashtags without providing any reasons on a regular basis. Sometimes the accounts are gone entirely, sometimes they get shadow bans (restricted visibility) or geoblocks.

There are different kinds of blocks that likely have different reasons. What they all have in common is that the operators of the accounts or websites have zero power over this. They complained and were ignored. They couldn’t just move their Twitteraccount to Twitter2, because there’s no such thing. On corporate social media you are at operator’s mercy. They don’t have proper moderation and overblocking is a common occurance.
